I have always favored Ben Forta's books on the subject. But after reading "Programming Coldfusion", I can honestly say this is the book you want if you use Coldfusion. This book is great if you are a beginner in the language, or a seasoned pro since version 1.0. The chapters are well designed and easily understood. He takes you through the life cycle of an application as well as installation of the product. You will learn about every function and how to use them. Along with the code examples, this book will teach you what you need to use Coldfusion daily. I highly recommend this book.

When I started reading this book, I knew nothing about XML. After reading the book, I'm much farther ahead now. The book was well laid out and presented the information in what seemed to be a logical manor. I cannot say if this is the best way to learn XML because I am not a master of it yet. XML is/was very confusing to me but this book did a good job helping me understand MUCH better. I feel confident enough that I could start a project in XML and be able to finish it (with the help of XML in a Nutshell). I recommend this book if you want to learn the basics of XML. If you already have a good grasp on XML, this book might not help you.

I can't stress to you enough that this is the XML book of all XML books. I am NOT an expert in XML, but with this book, I can fumble my way through an XML application. This book will NOT teach you everything there is to know about XML. This book IS a wonderful reference to thumb through for each XML question that arises. If I had to buy one XML book to do my job, XML in a Nutshell would be the one. I own many books in the "Nutshell" series and absolutely LOVE and use them all. So if you've got a project in XML to complete, go get this book and watch how much time it saves you.

This is a great reference book for Oracle professionals and an invaluable resource for obtaining information. The book has excellent sections on backup and recovery, tuning, extracting and loading files, reporting, scripting, and getting around in the database. The scripting chapter is very thorough as well. Plenty of information and if it's not, there are listed sources for finding more on various subjects. Found it was lacking in the database administrator tools area.

This book is one every Oracle professional must have on their bookshelf. It gives in depth details on the built in packages. The companion disk exemplifies the power of these packages and creates an interface for effectively working them into your existing code. No need to make more work for yourself when you learn what these packages can do for your code.

I let one of my users, who did not know Flash, read this book. In a very short time, they were able to use the basic features of flash. This book does not go into great depth about Actionscript, but it will teach you what you need to know to get started. Flash is very complex and with the help of Mr Hoekman, it is much easier to understand. The layout of the book is fantastic. Each chapter builds upon the next. If you have limited to no understanding of Flash, I would recommend this book. In just a few days, you will have a much deeper understanding of Flash and be ready for other books to teach you Actionscript.
